Why Orbital Welding Training Pays for Itself
The machine is only as good as the operator.
Orbital welding equipment makes hard welds repeatable. It does not make them automatic. Somebody still has to set the joint up right, pick the right program, and know what to do when a weld doesn’t look right. That is what training is for.
Why training matters
A crew can own the best orbital welding equipment on the market and still struggle with it. A lot of weld problems come down to setup, prep and programming, not the machine. Every rejected weld has to be cut out and done again, and every hour spent fighting the machine is an hour the job isn’t moving.
- Fewer rejected welds. Operators who understand the theory behind the machine set it up right the first time.
- Less downtime. A trained operator can tell the difference between a setup problem and an equipment problem.
- Longer equipment life. Knowing how to handle a weld head, and what to do after a blowout or a dropped tungsten, keeps small problems from turning into expensive repairs.
- Confidence on the weld test. New operators walk in knowing what the test is looking for.

What good training covers
Our classes run 2 to 5 days, depending on what your team needs. They go from the basics all the way up to advanced work.
- Theory and understanding the machine. How the power supply and weld head work together, and why the settings matter.
- Hands-on time. Real time on real equipment, including the weld prep that makes or breaks a weld: cutting and facing.
- Basic operation. Running the machine day to day and passing a weld test.
- Advanced work. Writing programs and making more complex welds.

Built around your industry
A pharmaceutical line, a semiconductor plant and an aerospace shop don’t weld the same way or answer to the same standards. We tailor training to your industry so your people learn what they need to know to be successful on your work, not someone else’s.
Small classes
We keep classes to 5 students max. Everyone gets real time on the machine, and the instructor has time to watch each person weld and fix problems before they become habits.
Who it’s for
- New operators looking to get into the field and learn how to pass a weld test.
- Experienced orbital welders who want to learn new tricks and techniques and get even better.
Equipment we train on
TIG is your partner for training and know-how on brands like AXXAIR, Arc Machines, Inc. (AMI), Tri Tool and more. Running a different brand or model? Let us know and we’ll see if we can help.
At our facility or at yours
We train at our facility just outside Denver, Colorado, and at customer sites all over the country.

What you walk away with
- A certificate of completion at the end of class.
- Certifications available through our partner CWI labs.
- A partner after class. This isn’t one and done. If something comes up, we’re happy to answer questions, and we can send one of our subject matter experts to your site to solve more complex problems.
Training costs less than a stack of cut-out welds and a weld head that comes back for repair. Get your people trained right the first time.
