Before the Big Job: Get Your Orbital Welding Equipment Ready
Before the big job: get your orbital welding equipment ready.
New pharmaceutical and semiconductor plants are going up all over the country, and every one of them runs on miles of high purity stainless steel. If your crew is about to mobilize, the time to get your equipment ready is now, not after QC walks up to your welder.
The work is coming
Drug makers are building new manufacturing sites across the U.S., and new semiconductor plants are under construction in several states. That means a lot of high purity stainless steel tube and pipe, and a lot of orbital welds that have to pass inspection the first time.
These jobs move fast and they don’t wait for anybody. When a welder goes down, the schedule doesn’t stop. Your crew does.

The pre-job checklist
Before you mobilize, make sure you have:
- Your welding equipment set up. Whether it’s rental or you own it, have it on hand and ready to run before day one.
- Current calibration. Make sure the calibration is up to date. An out-of-calibration welder is a fast way to get shut down by QC.
- Serviced equipment. A lot of things can go down on a job. Get your weld heads and power supplies serviced before the job starts, not halfway through it.
- All the tools you need. Weld prep, cutting and facing tools, and the consumables to keep them running.
- A trained team. Your crew should know the equipment and be ready to go. Here’s why training pays for itself.
Real story: two days down
We had a customer get shut down by QC because their welder was out of calibration. Luckily we were able to set up a time and send a team to their job site two days later to get them back up and running.
But they were still down a welder for two days. On a big job, that’s two days of a crew waiting and a schedule slipping, all over something that could have been handled before the job started.
Check your calibration dates before you mobilize. If anything is close to due, get it done now.
Don’t wait until the last minute
The sooner your equipment comes in, the sooner it gets back to you. When a big project is ramping up, everybody needs their gear at the same time. Don’t get stuck at the back of the line.
- Fast turnaround on repair and service at our shop just outside Denver, Colorado.
- On-site work. We can do some work at your site, including calibration to OEM spec.
- Brands we support include AMI, AXXAIR, Tri Tool and more.
- Weld heads checked for damage from things like BBs and dropped tungsten before they fail on the job.

Get it serviced, get it calibrated, get your crew trained, then go win the job.
